Membership and Rules for Hostel Mess

  • Automatic Membership: All hostel boarders are automatically members of the respective hostel mess.
  • Mandatory Participation: Participation in the mess is compulsory for all hostel residents.
  • Dining Hall Service: Meals are served in the dining hall during scheduled hours, and boarders are expected to dine within the hall. Meals outside the dining area are only permitted in emergency cases with the approval of the Warden.
  • Use of Mess Utensils: Boarders are strictly prohibited from removing mess utensils from the dining hall.
  • Dress Code: Boarders are required to be appropriately dressed when entering the dining hall, including properly tied hair to maintain hygiene and decorum.
  • Timely Payment of Mess Dues: Boarders must pay their mess dues by the 7th day of every month. Receipts are provided upon payment and should be retained until the end of the academic year. Late payments incur an additional charge of Rs. 10 per day.
  • Hygiene Standards: Maintaining cleanliness in the mess is a priority. The committee ensures that hygiene protocols are strictly followed in the dining area.
  • Mess Rules Compliance: All boarders are expected to adhere to mess rules and regulations.
  • Meal Attendance Monitoring: Committee members are responsible for ensuring that boarders do not skip meals, promoting consistent meal attendance.
  • Reporting Issues: Any issues or complaints related to the mess should be reported to the Mess In-charge promptly to ensure quick resolution.
  • Strict Adherence to Mess Timings: Mess timings must be followed precisely. The dining rooms will be locked after the scheduled meal hours to ensure discipline and order.

Mess Timings

  • All boarders are required to adhere to the mess schedule strictly. Meals are served during the following times:

    • Breakfast: 7:00 am – 9:00 am
    • Lunch: 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
    • Dinner: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

    The dining room will be locked after these times, and no meals will be served outside of these hours unless permitted by the Warden in case of an emergency

  • The Mess Committee plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the mess and upholding standards of hygiene and discipline. The specific responsibilities include:

    • Monitoring Hygiene: Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in the dining area and kitchen, promoting a healthy dining environment.
    • Enforcing Rules: Committee members ensure that all boarders comply with mess rules, including the dress code, use of utensils, and mess timings.
    • Encouraging Regular Meal Attendance: The committee monitors student attendance at meals, promoting regular and healthy eating habits among boarders.
    • Addressing Issues Promptly: Committee members are responsible for reporting any issues or concerns regarding the mess to the Mess In-charge, ensuring swift action to address any complaints or problems.
    • Meal Quality Checks: The committee regularly monitors the quality and variety of meals provided, addressing any feedback from students to improve the dining experience.
