Overview

The III & IV Semester B.Sc Nursing Students are trained in general Medical Surgical Nursing department are trained to identify the Medical & Surgical needs of patients who come for preventive and promotive health. Students get first class clinical experience on the vast array of Medical & Surgical conditions and the various newer diagnosis and modalities at Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences which is situated in the same campus. The faculty of Medical Surgical Nursing department take a crucial role in teaching and moulding them. The department of General Medicine and surgery of Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences provides ultimate care for more than 20,000 patients annually . The General Medicine and surgery is one of the largest department of this institution. The entire health care team are committed in apply latest knowledge and technology to meet the needs of the patient and render quality holistic care towards the patient . The Medical Surgical Nursing department also participate regularly in Health camps where screening for various conditions are performed. The III & IV Semester Medical Surgical Nursing students have 5 hours of clinical posting per day under the supervision of Medical Surgical Nursing faculty. The students are taught about the various Medical Surgical Nursing procedures through demonstrations and case presentation. Individual and group Health Education, Drug Presentation and clinical presentation are conducted regularly to update their knowledge and teaching skills. Students are getting first hand clinical experience in the hospital.

OBJECTIVES & FOCUS

The aim of clinical posting for III and IV Semester B.Sc (N) students is to assume responsibilities, demonstrate competency in clinical procedures in a variety of clinical settings. Students learn problem solving approach to patient care during various phases of illness and psychological mechanism where in which alteration occurs and perform their skills efficiently at various levels of clinical setting. Students are trained to assess health problems systematically evaluate the effectiveness of intervention and patients response to Nursing action. Perform the aseptic procedures ,assist in the operations and provide pre-operative Nursing care Practice Nursing procedures related to medical & surgical conditions.

POST GRADUATES

  • Post graduate programme in Nursing builds upon and extends competence acquired at the graduate levels, emphasizes application of relevant theories into nursing practice, education, administration and development of research skills.
  • The programme prepares nurses for leadership position in nursing and health fields who can function as nurse specialists, consultants, educators, administrators and researchers in a wide variety of professional settings in meeting the National priorities and the changing needs of the society.
