Established in 2006 under the Padanilam Welfare Trust, the Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is an 850-bed NABH-accredited tertiary care teaching hospital committed to excellence in healthcare, medical education, research, and community service. Nestled amidst the serene foothills of the Western Ghats, SMIMS has transformed rural healthcare by bringing advanced medical services closer to the community while nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the institution offers 150 MBBS seats and 21 postgraduate programmes (73 MD/MS seats), supported by modern teaching facilities, simulation-based learning, and a vibrant research ecosystem.
SMIMS is home to several Centres of Excellence, including the Institute of Cardiac Sciences (medical and surgical cardiology), Institute of Neurosciences (neurology and neurosurgery), Institute of Renal Sciences (nephrology, kidney transplantation, and urology), Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology with the first dedicated Urogynaecology Centre in South Tamil Nadu, the Sree Mookambika Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and one of the region's most advanced 24×7 Emergency Medicine & Trauma Centres, delivering comprehensive multidisciplinary care under one roof.
