Maximum tumor control. Minimum exposure.
The Radiation Oncology Department at Sree Mookambika Cancer Centre is equipped with advanced technology to deliver highly precise and effective radiation treatment for a wide spectrum of cancers. We are proud to be the first centre in the district — and one of the leading centres in South Tamil Nadu — to introduce advanced Linear Accelerator (LINAC)-based radiotherapy and Brachytherapy.
Our services focus on maximum tumor control while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues — ensuring safer treatment and a better quality of life for every patient.
Department Head
Leads the Radiation Oncology programme with extensive expertise in advanced radiotherapy techniques, brachytherapy, stereotactic treatments, and precision treatment planning — ensuring safe, personalised, and effective cancer care.

Leadership
Dr K L Jayakumar
MD (Radiation Oncology)
Advanced Technology
Built around precision.

Linear Accelerator (LINAC)
The state-of-the-art Varian Linear Accelerator delivers highly precise radiation using advanced treatment planning systems — enabling modern radiotherapy techniques that accurately target tumors while protecting nearby organs.

CT Simulator
Advanced CT simulation produces detailed three-dimensional images of the tumor and surrounding organs. Specialists precisely identify target volumes and design personalized plans that deliver the prescribed dose to cancer cells while sparing healthy tissues.

HDR Brachytherapy
High Dose Rate Brachytherapy places a radioactive source close to or inside the tumor for a short, targeted exposure — delivering a high dose to cancer cells while minimizing radiation to surrounding tissues. Especially effective for cervical, endometrial, prostate and breast cancers.
Treatment Techniques
External beam &
internal radiation.
A complete spectrum of advanced radiation therapy delivered with planning, imaging and dose modulation — calibrated to every patient.

RapidArc Therapy
Volumetric arc therapy — highly precise delivery in shorter sessions.
IMRT
Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy that conforms dose to tumor shape.
IGRT
Image-Guided Radiation Therapy with real-time accuracy during treatment.
3D-CRT
Conformal beams shaped to tumor geometry, sparing healthy tissue.
Electron Beam
Specialized technique for treating superficial tumors.
HDR Brachytherapy
Internal high-dose radiation placed precisely at the tumor site.
Cancers Treated
A wide spectrum of care.
Radiation therapy is used alone or in combination with surgery and chemotherapy — calibrated to the stage and type of each cancer.

One patient. One plan. Every specialty.
Every patient at SMCC is reviewed in a Multidisciplinary Tumor Board — radiation, medical and surgical oncology, radiology and pathology — designing the most effective, personalized treatment plan.
AERB · Government of India
Radiation Safety & Regulatory Compliance
All radiation facilities — LINAC, Brachytherapy and CT Simulator — are licensed and regulated by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. Regular quality assurance, equipment calibration and radiation monitoring uphold the highest standards of safety for patients, staff and the environment.

Frozen Section · Real-time Diagnosis
Comprehensive histopathology and intraoperative frozen section analysis — assessing tumor margins and confirming diagnosis during surgery for sharper precision and better outcomes.
Training the next generation of oncology specialists.
Among the first centres in South Tamil Nadu to offer Postgraduate training in Radiation Oncology — comprehensive clinical exposure to LINAC-based radiotherapy, Brachytherapy, CT Simulator-based planning, multidisciplinary tumor boards and patient-centered cancer care.
Postgraduate
MD — Radiation Oncology
Hands-on training in modern radiation techniques, research and tumor-board case discussions.
Undergraduate
Radiotherapy Technology
Trains skilled radiation therapy technologists in patient positioning, radiation safety and modern radiotherapy procedures.
