Under his leadership, Kulasekharam has been transformed from a small rural town into a thriving healthcare and educational hub, attracting students, academicians, and patients from across India and beyond.

A leader who always places people before profits, Dr. Velayuthan Nair has consistently invested in advanced healthcare technologies based on community needs rather than commercial considerations. A defining example was the establishment of the PET-CT facility after witnessing one of the institution's own drivers diagnosed with lymphoma struggle to travel repeatedly to Thiruvananthapuram for an expensive scan. Despite being advised that such a facility was not commercially viable, he chose to establish it so that patients in the region could receive timely and affordable cancer care closer to home. The same vision led to the creation of the Sree Mookambika Comprehensive Cancer Centre, bringing advanced oncology services to the doorstep of rural communities.

Inspired by the humanitarian values of his grandfather, Ayurveda Acharyan Shri Velayuthan Pillai, he believes that no patient should be denied healthcare because of financial hardship. This philosophy is reflected in pioneering initiatives such as the Sree Mookambika Health Card, free patient transportation, and free meals for patients and their bystanders, ensuring that healthcare remains accessible, affordable, and compassionate for every family.

His vision continues to drive innovation, ethical practice, and compassionate care while shaping future generations of healthcare professionals and transforming countless lives.

Dr. Mookambika R. V. is the Trustee and Chief Executive Officer of Sree Mookambika Institutions, providing strategic leadership across its healthcare, education, research, and community outreach initiatives. A nephrologist by training and a passionate academician, she seamlessly combines clinical expertise with visionary administration, driving innovation, institutional growth, and excellence in medical education. Under her leadership, the institution continues to strengthen its commitment to quality healthcare, research, digital transformation, and patient-centred care while expanding access to advanced medical services for rural communities.

An accomplished educator and researcher, Dr. Mookambika serves as Professor of Medicine and has mentored numerous postgraduate students in research and thesis work. She has organised national and international academic programmes, introduced innovative teaching methodologies, and actively promotes competency-based medical education, faculty development, and research culture among healthcare professionals. Her academic interests include preventive nephrology, lifestyle medicine, diabetes, hypertension, and community health awareness.

She led the first successful kidney transplant in Kanyakumari district, marking a significant milestone in advancing renal care in the region.

A strong advocate of Lifestyle Medicine and Culinary Medicine, Dr. Mookambika believes that food is one of the most powerful tools in preventing and managing chronic diseases. Through community awareness initiatives, educational programmes, and public engagement, she promotes healthy nutrition, preventive healthcare, and sustainable lifestyle practices, empowering individuals to take charge of their health long before illness develops.
