Overview

The Department of Pathology is dedicated to patient care services, education, and research. Every faculty member is actively engaged in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training, ensuring strong academic and clinical foundations. The department provides prompt and accurate diagnostic services to all clinical departments, thereby maintaining the highest standards of patient care. In addition to MBBS teaching, the department also trains Dental, Nursing, and Paramedical students, contributing to a broad spectrum of healthcare education. Postgraduates are actively involved not only in routine thesis work but also in independent research studies, with several publications in indexed journals, reflecting the department’s commitment to advancing medical knowledge and research.

Histopathology Lab

The department has an almost fully automated Histopathology Laboratory, equipped to provide accurate tissue diagnosis with optimal turnaround time (TAT). Synoptic reporting formats based on CAP guidelines are followed, ensuring standardization and clinical usefulness for treating physicians. The department also coordinates and conducts a weekly tumor board, enabling a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care.

Clinical Pathology Lab

Our Hospital Laboratory (Clinical Pathology) offers a comprehensive range of services and operates 24/7. It is equipped with advanced instruments including 7-part hematology analyzers, a fully automated coagulometer, urine analyzers, and ESR machines, ensuring precise and timely results.

Cytopathology Lab

The Cytopathology Laboratory provides advanced diagnostic services such as fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), cell block studies, body fluid cytology, and automated Pap smear preparation and reporting. These facilities support both routine and specialized diagnostic needs.

Quality Standards

The laboratories actively participate in both Internal and External Quality Assessment Programs (QAPs) to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in reporting.

Transfusion Medicine

Our Transfusion Department is a state-of-the-art facility capable of performing sophisticated screening procedures to ensure 100% safe transfusion practices.

  • Dr. Sreeja K Bhasy, Postgraduate student, won First Prize for E-Poster Presentation in the Webinar CME on Pathology to Genetics conducted by the Department of Pathology, Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore, Chennai, on 18th March 2023.
