Department of General Surgery
The Department of General Surgery at Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences provides III Year BDS students with critical training in surgical principles and practices, enhancing their ability to handle surgical complexities in dental patients. Located on the same campus, the department offers BDS students a rich exposure to a variety of surgical cases through clinical meetings, lectures, case discussions, and hands-on observation of procedures.
Faculty members play a vital role in guiding students, while community health camps organized by the department provide early screening and diagnosis opportunities for various surgical conditions. Students participate in clinical postings for 5 hours weekly, observing a wide range of surgical interventions in a state-of-the-art operation theatre complex equipped with advanced life support systems.
Clinical Exposure and Operation Theatre Training
BDS students witness a variety of surgeries in the General Surgery department, including advanced procedures in head and neck cancer, reconstructive surgeries, major abdominal surgeries, and minimally invasive surgeries. This exposure, combined with specialized facilities like upper and lower GI endoscopy units and the sophisticated emergency trauma unit, provides students with practical knowledge in managing and observing surgical care.
