Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences (SMIDS), founded in 1999, is a leading dental institution in South India, established with the vision of delivering exceptional dental education and care to the semi-rural community it serves. The college was founded by esteemed visionaries, Dr. Velayuthan Nair and Dr. Rema V. Nair, and operates under the Padanilam Welfare Trust, guided by trustees Dr. Velayuthan Nair, Dr. Rema V. Nair, Dr. R. V. Mookambika, and Dr. Vinu Gopinath.
Situated in the tranquil, green landscape of Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, the SMIDS campus spans 73 acres, providing an eco-friendly and conducive environment for education, research, and healthcare services.
The campus houses not only the dental college but also Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences and Sree Mookambika College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, making it the only dental college affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University to feature a medical college on-site.
SMIDS offers a comprehensive dental education, with an annual undergraduate intake of 60 students, and a postgraduate program introduced in 2002 admitting 16 students per year. All departments are furnished with advanced, state-of-the-art equipment and materials, supervised by highly qualified professors, assistant professors, and lecturers dedicated to training the next generation of dental professionals.
