The following rules and guidelines are established to maintain a disciplined, respectful, and harmonious environment within the hostel premises. Adherence to these rules ensures a safe and conducive living atmosphere for all residents.
Room Cleanliness and Maintenance
- Rooms should be kept scrupulously clean. Personal items and soiled clothes should be stored out of sight.
- Discarded items, such as rags or papers, should not be left in rooms, on the terrace, or in any part of the hostel premises.
- Residents are not allowed to write on, paste handbills, or put up posters on walls, furniture, doors, or any other property.
- Nailing walls or pasting pictures is strictly prohibited to preserve the condition of the room.
Behavior and Conduct
- Residents must maintain restraint and decorum in behavior, especially during study hours.
- Loud activities, such as shouting, reading aloud, or any behavior that could disturb others, should be avoided.
- Singing or dancing is not allowed within the hostel unless express permission has been obtained from the Director.
- Residents are expected to be back in their respective hostels by the allotted time. If a resident cannot comply with this curfew, they must obtain prior permission.
Room Assignment and Property Use
- Residents must use only the bed, furniture, and room assigned to them for study, rest, and sleep.
- Switching accommodations is not allowed unless there is a valid reason, such as combined study, and with prior approval from the Director.
- Hostel property, including furniture, fittings, and lights, must not be moved or removed from the premises.
- Any damage to hostel property must be reported to the Warden immediately. The cost of repairs will be recovered from the individual responsible, or if untraceable, from the members of the concerned area.
- Wanton damage to property may lead to fines in addition to repair costs.
Meetings and Publications
- Residents are not allowed to organize any meetings within the hostel premises without written permission from the Warden.
- No circulars or subscription lists should be distributed without approval from the Director.
- Political meetings, processions, or any form of political propaganda are strictly prohibited. Violating this rule will result in immediate expulsion from the hostel.
Respect for Support Staff
- Residents must treat hostel support staff with respect and refrain from any form of ill-treatment or unnecessary dealings with them.
Financial Dues and Vacations
- Before leaving for vacations or other extended absences, residents must ensure that all hostel dues are fully paid.
Security of Personal Belongings
- Residents should not leave money or valuables in their rooms. The hostel authorities are not liable for any losses of money or personal belongings of residents or their guests.
Emergency Leave Procedures
- Residents may not go home based on a telephone message. In case of an emergency, a written request must be submitted to the hostel warden, who will assess the validity of the request.
Study Hours and Quiet Time
- Night study is compulsory, and strict silence must be observed during study hours to maintain an environment conducive to learning.
Visitor Regulations
- Visitors’ Day is scheduled every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Only parents and authorized individuals with ID are allowed to meet residents.
- Visitors are not permitted to enter hostel rooms, and male and female visitors are restricted to designated areas.
Home Visits and Shopping
- Hostel residents are permitted to go home once a month with a parent or guardian.
- Shopping for hostel residents is managed by the Director or Administrative Officer, who will determine any necessary items.
Resource Conservation
- Food and water should not be wasted. Residents wasting food or misusing water will be penalized.
- Taps should be turned off before leaving rooms to prevent water wastage.
Strangers and Security
- No strangers, especially tradesmen, are allowed within the hostel compound to ensure the safety and security of residents.
Disciplinary Actions
- Any misconduct or breach of these rules may result in penalties, including fines, suspension, or dismissal from the hostel.
